No problem. There are several ways to get out on the water worry-free without a licence.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Choose a boat with a skipper<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The easiest option: book a boat or jet ski with a skipper. An experienced local skipper does the sailing, while you and the rest of your group simply enjoy the ride. No licence needed.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Small motorboats without a licence<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At many destinations, no licence is required for motorboats up to a certain engine power. This varies by country, so always check the specific requirements for your chosen boat when booking.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A note on jet skis<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At most destinations a licence or minimum age requirement does apply to jet skis. A general overview<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The rules for boating without a licence differ per country and change from time to time. The overview below gives a general picture for popular holiday countries. Use it as a guideline: exactly what applies to your boat is always stated by the rental partner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Spain<\/strong> (including <a href=\"https:\/\/ghesia.com\/en\/topbestemmingen\/boot-huren-ibiza\/\">Ibiza<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ghesia.com\/en\/topbestemmingen\/boot-huren-mallorca\/\">Mallorca<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/ghesia.com\/en\/topbestemmingen\/boot-huren-costa-brava\/\">Costa Brava<\/a>): motorboats up to about 5 metres and 15 hp can usually be rented without a licence, mostly only during daylight and close to the coast. The rental company gives you a short briefing beforehand.<\/li>\n\n\n<li><strong>France<\/strong> (C\u00f4te d\u2019Azur): the limit is lower here. Without a licence you can usually only take boats with a small engine of around 6 hp.<\/li>\n\n\n<li><strong>Italy<\/strong> (including the <a href=\"https:\/\/ghesia.com\/en\/topbestemmingen\/boot-huren-amalfikust\/\">Amalfi Coast<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/ghesia.com\/en\/topbestemmingen\/boot-huren-sardinie\/\">Sardinia<\/a>): with an engine up to about 40 hp you can often go without a licence, close to the coast.<\/li>\n\n\n<li><strong>Greece<\/strong> (including <a href=\"https:\/\/ghesia.com\/en\/topbestemmingen\/boot-huren-zakynthos\/\">Zakynthos<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ghesia.com\/en\/topbestemmingen\/boot-huren-mykonos\/\">Mykonos<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/ghesia.com\/en\/topbestemmingen\/boot-huren-kreta\/\">Crete<\/a>): for smaller motorboats up to about 30 hp, a licence is often not required.<\/li>\n\n\n<li><strong>Croatia<\/strong> (including <a href=\"https:\/\/ghesia.com\/en\/topbestemmingen\/boot-huren-split\/\">Split<\/a>): the rules are stricter and a licence is often required even for fairly small motorboats. A boat with a skipper is the easiest option here.<\/li>\n\n\n<li><strong>Outside Europe<\/strong> (for example the Caribbean, Dubai or Thailand): rules vary greatly per country and harbour. You will often go out with a skipper or on a guided trip.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Please note: this information is general and may change. Ghesia is not a rental company itself; the local rental partner decides and checks which documents you need.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What kind of boat do you get without a licence?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Boats you can drive without a licence are usually compact open motorboats for about 4 to 6 people. They are easy to handle and often have a sun canopy and a swim ladder. Don\u2019t expect high speeds: these boats are made for cruising gently along the coast, anchoring in a beautiful bay and swimming. That is exactly what makes them ideal for families and beginners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Out on the water without experience: how to do it safely<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ask for a clear explanation of the controls, the anchor and the route before you leave.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Check the weather forecast and especially the wind. The skipper knows the most beautiful bays, knows where to anchor safely and keeps an eye on the weather. All you have to do is enjoy. If you don\u2019t have a licence, you can often join a guided jet ski tour led by an instructor. The minimum age differs per country and rental company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can I use my Dutch boating licence abroad?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Dutch Klein Vaarbewijs is accepted in many countries, but not everywhere. Some rental companies ask for an ICC (International Certificate of Competence).
