How much does it cost to rent a boat or jet ski? It’s one of the most frequently asked questions, and the honest answer is: it depends on a few factors. Here are the main things that determine the price.
The type of vessel
- You can often rent a jet ski for a few hours at a relatively low price, ideal for a short, active outing.
- A compact motorboat is usually mid-range in price and a popular choice for a day on the water with family or friends.
- RIBs, speedboats and sailing boats often cost a little more, reflecting the extra comfort or performance.
- Luxury yachts, possibly with a skipper, are at the top of the price range and ideal for a special occasion.
Self-drive or with a skipper?
A boat or jet ski with a skipper is usually more expensive than driving yourself, but you don’t need a licence and everyone on board can relax. Prefer to drive yourself? Then you often pay less, provided you meet the licence and age requirements.
The destination and the season
Prices vary per destination and rental partner, and are usually higher in peak season (July and August) than in the quieter months before and after. At Ghesia you always see the current price for each boat or jet ski upfront, with no hidden costs.
What makes up the total price?
Besides the rental price itself, a few items make the difference. So when comparing, don’t just look at the hourly price, but also at what is included.
- Rental price: per half hour or hour (especially for jet skis), per half day or per day.
- Fuel: sometimes included, sometimes you pay afterwards based on what you used.
- Skipper: for a boat with a skipper this is often included in the price, but not always.
- Deposit: a security deposit that you get back when the boat is returned undamaged.
- Extras: think of a snorkel set, SUP board, cooler or drinks on board.
At Ghesia, each boat or jet ski shows upfront what is included, which deposit applies and which cancellation policy applies.
Per hour, half day or full day?
Jet skis are usually rented per half hour or per hour: short, intense and plenty for a good dose of adrenaline. Boats are often rented per half day (about 4 hours) or per full day. A full day is often better value per hour and gives you time to visit several bays, swim and have lunch on board.
How to rent for less
- Choose the shoulder season: in May, June and September you often pay less than in July and August, and it’s quieter on the water.
- Go on a weekday: demand is higher at weekends at many destinations.
- Book early: in peak season the most popular boats fill up fast.
- Share the costs: you usually pay per boat, not per person. With a full boat the price per person drops considerably.
- Compare what you get: a slightly more expensive boat with fuel and skipper included can end up being cheaper.
Deposit and cancellation: what to look out for
Frequently asked questions
Is fuel included?
That varies per boat and rental partner. The boat listing shows whether fuel is included or whether you pay afterwards based on usage.
Do I pay per person or per boat?
Almost always per boat. The more people you bring (up to the maximum listed for the boat), the lower the price per person.
Are there hidden costs?
No. The price you see at Ghesia is the price you pay. Costs that may arise on site, such as a deposit or fuel based on usage, are stated in advance.
