Booking through Ghesia

Am I booking with Ghesia or with the rental partner?

You rent from the rental partner. Ghesia is an online booking platform: we confirm your booking, receive your payment on behalf of the local rental partner and provide our customer service. The rental agreement for the boat or jet ski is concluded directly between you and that rental partner; Ghesia itself is not a rental company. You always see which rental partner it is before booking. More about this in articles 4 and 5 of our General Terms (NL).

Does Ghesia own the boats and jet skis?

No. Ghesia does not own any boats or jet skis. We work with local rental partners who own the vessels or are authorised to use them. Before admitting them, we check their licences and proof of insurance. Read more on our page about trust, safety & insurance.

Which destinations does Ghesia cover?

Ghesia focuses on popular beach destinations worldwide, from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean. This winter the focus is on sunny destinations such as Curaçao, Aruba, Bonaire and Dubai. We keep adding new local rental partners; on our destinations page you can see for each destination whether you can already book directly. Is your destination not listed yet? Let us know, and we will gladly help you look.

How many people can come along?

Each boat and jet ski has a maximum number of people, depending on the type, size and the rental partner’s local safety regulations. You can easily filter by group size on our search page; the exact maximum is always shown before you book.

Can I also book for a bachelor(ette) party, company outing or larger group?

Certainly. For special occasions we have dedicated overviews with suitable boats and packages, for example for boat parties and company outings on the water. For larger groups, feel free to contact us in advance and we will help you find the best option.

Will I receive a booking confirmation and what does it include?

Boating licence, age & preparation

Do I need a boating licence?

That depends on the type of boat or jet ski and the destination. Smaller motorboats often don’t require a licence, while jet skis and larger boats usually do – if in doubt, choose an option with a skipper. See our page what you need to go boating for an overview; the exact requirement for your booking is always listed with the vessel.

What is the minimum age to drive or join a boat trip?

The minimum age to drive a boat or jet ski yourself is usually between 16 and 18, depending on the country and the type of vessel. Younger children are often welcome as passengers or on a trip with a skipper, provided they are responsibly supervised by an adult.

Which documents should I bring?

Always bring a valid ID and, if required for your boat or jet ski, your boating licence. Some rental partners also ask for your booking confirmation and a credit card or cash for the deposit.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Veiligheid staat voorop.

The price you see is the total price, including all mandatory costs and including the local VAT and taxes paid by the rental partner. You do not pay Ghesia any separate service fee: we receive a commission from the rental partner. Any costs you may pay on site, such as a deposit, fuel (if not included) or extra hours, are always stated before you book.

How can I pay and is it secure?

You pay securely online via Mollie, a Dutch payment service provider supervised by De Nederlandsche Bank (the Dutch central bank). You can choose from iDEAL | Wero, credit card (Visa and Mastercard), Bancontact, Belfius, Pay by Bank and Klarna. Ghesia does not store full bank or card details. The total price you see is what you pay: no booking or service fees are added. Any deposit is usually paid on site to the rental partner; this is always stated in advance with the boat or jet ski.

Will I receive an invoice or proof of payment?

After payment you will receive a proof of payment in your confirmation email. It states that Ghesia received the amount as an intermediary on behalf of the rental partner. Because you rent the boat or jet ski from the rental partner, this is not an invoice from Ghesia and we do not charge Dutch VAT; the price includes the local VAT that the rental partner pays in the country of rental. Do you need an invoice, for example for your employer or a company outing? Email us at info@ghesia.com, and we will arrange it for you with the rental partner.

What are the cancellation conditions?

Alle details lees je op onze pagina Cancellation policy and in article 7 of our General Terms (NL).

Can I cancel my booking free of charge within 14 days (right of withdrawal)?

Nee.

What is a deposit and do I get it back?

Many rental partners ask for a deposit on site as security against possible damage. The amount is stated before you book. The deposit is handled directly between you and the rental partner. After a trip without damage, you get it back in line with the rental partner’s terms.

What happens if I arrive late or don’t show up (no-show)?

If you are more than 30 minutes late without notice, or don’t show up, this counts as a last-minute cancellation and you will not receive a refund. If you are less late, your rental time may be shortened. Running late? Let us or the rental partner know as soon as possible.

Safety, insurance & liability

Is a rented boat or jet ski insured?

Our rental partners are required to insure their boats and jet skis according to local regulations and provide us with proof of this every year. Ask the rental partner about the exact cover, the excess and the deposit.

Who is liable if something goes wrong during the trip?

Ghesia is a booking platform and not a rental company, carrier or tour operator. The rental and the trip are the responsibility of the rental partner; you are liable for any damage you cause yourself. Ghesia is not liable for damage, injury or loss during or resulting from the use of the vessel. The full terms are set out in articles 10 and 11 of our General Terms (NL).

Am I insured against damage or injury myself?

Water sports involve risks. Check for yourself whether your travel, accident and liability insurance provides sufficient cover for water sports; Ghesia does not currently offer its own insurance. When booking, also ask which insurance applies to the vessel itself.

What happens if there is damage to the boat or to third parties?

Always report damage, defects or an incident to the rental partner immediately, and to the local authorities where necessary. Damage to the vessel or to third parties is settled between you and the rental partner, in accordance with the rental agreement and the applicable insurance. Ghesia is not a party to this, but is happy to help you get in touch.

Complaints, disputes & contact

I have a complaint about my booking or the rental partner. What now?

Email your complaint as soon as possible to info@ghesia.com. You will receive a substantive response within 14 days. If the complaint concerns the rental itself, such as the condition of the vessel, we forward it to the rental partner and help you find a solution.

The legally binding terms can be found in our General Terms (NL), our privacy policy and our cookie policy, supplemented by the rental partner’s terms that you see when booking.
