Boating in Bonaire: the highlights

  • Klein Bonaire – the uninhabited islet opposite Kralendijk with the white No Name Beach.
  • Bonaire National Marine Park – the entire coast is protected; you moor to buoys instead of anchoring.
  • Snorkelling and diving – right from the boat you can see colourful coral and tropical fish.

Practical information

  • Best time: All year round, thanks to the dry, warm climate outside the hurricane belt.
  • Departure point: most trips depart from Kralendijk.
  • Boating licence: whether you need a licence depends on the type of boat and the local rules. Read what you need to go boating.
  • Type of boat: from motorboats and speedboats to jet skis or boats with a skipper. See the types of boats and jet skis.

Popular boat trips on Bonaire

  • Klein Bonaire: a short crossing from Kralendijk to No Name Beach, with snorkelling spots all around the island.
  • Snorkelling along the west coast: countless dive sites of the marine park are within easy reach from the boat.
  • Lac Bay (Lac Baai): a shallow bay with mangroves on the east coast, known for windsurfing and kayaking.
  • Sunset at Kralendijk: a relaxed evening trip along the waterfront.

Tips for boating on Bonaire

  • Anchoring is prohibited in the Bonaire National Marine Park. You moor to a buoy instead.
  • A nature fee from STINAPA applies to snorkelling, diving and other water sports in the marine park. Check their website for current rates.
  • Use reef-safe sunscreen and never touch coral or turtles.
  • The west coast is sheltered and usually calm. The east coast is rougher: only go there with an experienced skipper.

  • Ankeren is overal verboden.
  • Gemotoriseerde watersport is beperkt.
